Talent could either be a blessing or a curse depending on how you use it. I think of being talented as having a head start in a race. Some things just come more natural to you than others. And because of that, you tend to excel early on. If you use that god-given talent and learn what it is to be a hard worker, then who knows what heights you could reach.
I think Cristiano Ronaldo is the perfect example of this!
- He started out like every other kid in the world who plays soccer.
- He came from humble beginnings, and you’d might be surprised to hear that not everyone in his family were on board with him playing.
- Cristiano was considered to be the hardest working and most professional player even at a young age. You often hear stories from other players within the Sporting Lisbon academy about him sneaking out to the weight room late at night to get a lift in while everyone else was asleep. At Manchester United, everyone talks about his insatiable desire to improve. He was always the first and last one on the pitch, just constantly refining his game.
- There is no secret about how Cristiano has developed into arguably one of the best players to ever play the game.
You see the thing is, is that talent will open the doors for you, but hard work is going to keep you there. We often underestimate the progress that we could make in 6 months, a year, 5 years, and even 10 years. I’ll leave you with a famous quote from Tim Notka, “Hard-work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”
