Plan To Win

A few years ago, I started listening to Zig Ziglar who a legend is the motivational speaking world. I heard him talk about the importance of planning to win. He created these self talk cards that would help you accomplish whatever goals you have. I was on such a high after listening to him that I decided to give it a try.

So I followed the steps. I created a list of goals, and read them aloud in front of the mirror first thing in the morning and again before I went to bed at night. During the first week, I was surprised by how uncomfortable I felt looking at myself while reading my goals. Zig said this would happen because this exercise reveals whether you truly believe in your ability to accomplish them or not. I obviously had some work to do. I kept with the routine, and over a period of time, I eventually felt more comfortable and confident about myself. Although I saw myself moving in the right direction, I was discouraged by how slowly everything seemed to unravel. So I kind of lost faith in the process and stopped doing it everyday.

Fast forward to the 4th of July 2017. For some reason, I felt compelled to revisit and revise the self-talk cards. I spent a few hours doing them and since then, I’ve been doing the exercise consistently. I’ve stuck it out through the slow moments and have been experiencing some big time break-throughs!

Zig says, “You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”

During my short time in life, I’ve come to recognize a few things by observing successful people.They set goals, work at them each day and never give up on them regardless of how rough the road becomes. As a result, they’ve become people that we all hold in high regards and strive to emulate.

Most people will never achieve those levels of success because of the bumps in the road they’ll encounter. There will however be a select few like you and I who will continue moving forward and will reach those lofty heights.

This I know for sure. You’re either listening to this episode because you have the desire to improve your current circumstances. OR your parents are forcing you to listen because they believe its a positive message that you should be hearing. They’re right! I’m so grateful that I discovered these things at my age and I’m excited by the thought that you may be much younger than me and you’re being exposed to these things.

So give it a try. Stick with it. Modify the exercise if you need to make it more YOU. Just give it a go. What do you have to lose? Mom and Dad, you do it too!
